RADIO PROPAGATION FOR REMOTE SENSING - GRANT POSITION FOR MSC

Summary A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação“) is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project O--LX-15, funded by own funds.
The work comprises an advanced analysis of experimental data and the finalisation of theoretical and numerical models for microwave remote detection of floating plastics on turbulent sea surfaces.
Based on the data obtained within the scope of the MARES project, the research focuses on the detailed characterisation of propagation phenomena influenced by dynamic processes such as wind and currents.
The main objective is to refine modelling approaches to accurately represent the temporal variability of the propagation channel.
This phase will integrate experimental results into comprehensive frameworks, ensuring the robustness and applicability of the models.
The final modelling efforts aim to improve detection accuracy and provide practical information for real-world implementation, consolidating the project's impact and outcomes.

Place of Work The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações – Leiria, under the supervision of Professor Rafael Caldeirinha Duration 12 months, with the possibility of renewal (according to the regulations defined by FCT).

Monthly Salary € according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (https://www.

Admission Requirements Research grants are intended.
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
In what concerns the admission requirements for this research grant in particular.
The candidate should hold a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field and must currently be enrolled as a student.
The ideal candidate must have proven solid experience in radio wave propagation, microwave remote sensing, and numerical modelling.
Proficiency in tools such as MATLAB, along with advanced skills in experimental data analysis and signal processing, is essential.
Experience in dynamic propagation channels, relevant scientific publications, and motivation to develop solutions with environmental impact, such as the detection of floating plastics, are highly valued.
The candidate should have a proficient level of comprehension, writing, and oral communication skills in English.
Immediate availability is considered a highly preferred criterion.
