This project would require the student to have a strong understanding of information security concepts, as well as skills in research, writing, and presentation.
This project would be a way for a student to gain practical experience in information security risk assessment.
It can be used by organizations of all sizes to enhance their security environment.
Specification Project title.
A Practical Approach to Information Security Risk Assessment Project objective.
The objective of this project is to develop a practical approach to information security risk assessment that can be used by organizations of all sizes.
Project deliverables.
The project deliverables will include a methodology, a toolkit, and a case study.
Submission.
• Submit a copy of the report in Word format, along with a copy of the toolkit.
• Summary of your report in PPTX format.
Project methodology The methodology will be based on the principles of risk management and will include the following steps.
• Identify assets.
The first step is to identify the organization's assets, both tangible and intangible.
• Identify threats.
The second step is to identify the threats that could pose a risk to the organization's assets.
• Assess vulnerabilities.
The third step is to assess the vulnerabilities of the organization's assets to the identified threats.
• Calculate risk scores.
The fourth step is to calculate the risk scores for each asset, based on the likelihood of a threat occurring and the impact of a threat if it were to occur.
• Prioritize risks.
The fifth step is to prioritize the risks, based on the risk scores.
• Develop recommendations.
The sixth step is to develop recommendations for mitigating the risks.
Project toolkit (Optional).
The toolkit will include a spreadsheet that can be used to automate the risk assessment process.
