RESEARCH GRANTS FOR FREE-SPACE OPTICAL COMMUNICATIONS.

Summary There is an open call for two (2) Research Scholarships (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project SenSat - .

This project is funded by FCT/MEC through national funds.
Work Objectives Main objectives.
1) Develop a numerical simulation tool for high-capacity Earth-satellite FSO communication; 2) Determine the impact of different gases/particles on the optical wireless beam; 3) Build an AI-based model for identifying gases/particles in typical FSO links; 4) Characterize the impact of sensing features on the communication performance of coherent FSO links; 5) Exploit coherent DSP to extract gases/particles signatures; 6) Design an optimized ISAC-FSO communication architecture; 7) Validate the proposed sensing methodology in an atmospheric chamber; 8) Integrate the sensing capabilities with real-time 400 Gbps transmission.
Place of Work The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Prof.
Fernando Pedro Pereira Guiomar.
Duration 12 months, with the possibility of renewal.
Start date.
January or soon thereafter.
Monthly Salary € according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.
ct.
t/apoios/bolsas/valores).
The payment will be made by bank transfer.
Admission Requirements Research grants are intended.
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.
Candidates must be enrolled on a course not conferring a degree or in a doctoral program in the areas of telecommunications engineering, informatics and telematics engineering, or equivalent, with knowledge on the area of optical communication systems, great motivation and ability for teamwork.
