Job Description Your Mission You will work with a diverse team to help shape the future of our API Development Lifecycle (we own the end 2 end process automation of reviewing and deploying an API), authorisation system (central service for authorisation rules) and the scaling our API Gateway foundations.
As a backend software engineer, you will take ownership of the full feature development lifecycle, with increased responsibility in design, implementation, and delivery.
Working with technologies such as Java, you’ll write scalable, maintainable, high-performance code.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring our backend systems are robust and reliable, focusing on continuous deployment and iterative delivery.
Your contributions will directly impact the stability and efficiency of our infrastructure, enabling you to deliver significant value to our merchants' onboarding process in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

On a regular day as a Backend Software Engineer, you will.
Design, develop, and maintain clean, efficient, and well-tested code to support critical business needs, ensuring scalability and performance across backend systems.
Take ownership of features and projects throughout the full software development lifecycle, including scoping, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, providing technical insights and contributing to backend architecture discussions to ensure reliable and efficient solutions.
Enhance existing systems and build new tools to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability of products across the identity verification, access control, and user data management services.
Participate in code reviews, share feedback constructively, and help elevate the overall quality and performance of the team’s output.
Contribute to process improvements, focusing on continuous integration, delivery, and deployment to ensure a smooth and stable development pipeline.
Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies, as well as best practices in cybersecurity and identity management, proactively identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities.
Collaborate with the compliance and security teams to ensure our authentication and user management systems adhere to relevant financial regulations and data protection laws across different jurisdictions.
Assist in troubleshooting complex issues related to user authentication and account management, providing timely resolutions to ensure uninterrupted service for our customers.
Qualifications Your Story 7+ years of professional software development experience, including a solid understanding of backend systems and scalable architectures.
Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles, data structures, and algorithms, with proven experience applying them in real-world applications.
Proven ability to design and implement efficient, maintainable, and scalable solutions using backend technologies (e.
., Kotlin, Java, C#, or similar languages).
Experience working with databases including schema design, query optimization, and database integration.
Experience with system design and architecture, including object-oriented design patterns, microservices architecture, and API development.
Ability to write performant and well-structured code.
Excellent communication and organisation skills.
Hands-on experience with version control (Git), continuous integration, and deployment pipelines.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex issues across multiple systems or services.
The ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Experience in implementing Authorisation Systems (example.
RBAC, ABAC); Participated in the end-to-end process of exposing an API (API Spec to Public Documentation) being used by external consumers.
