YOUR FUTURE ROLE We are looking for a Reliability Engineer (SMS) within the Shared Management Services (SMS) group in the Technology & Engineering unit of the newly formed Sovereign Cloud Delivery & Operations team as part of the Product Engineering board area.
In this role you will become a member of the Technology and Engineering team.
You will be engaging with existing SAP Sovereign Cloud engineering and operations experts across a globally distributed team of highly motivated engineers responsible for the design, development, deployment, upgrade and lifecycle management of the Sovereign Cloud Shared Management Services foundational platform and services.
You will inspire innovation, drive execution of disciplined and standardized processes and tools, and address mission-critical capability gaps and opportunities for maximized efficiency.
You will help identify trade-offs in deployment plans and any key day-to-day operational decisions impacting infrastructure investments significantly.
You will drive and manage backup and disaster recovery drills to ensure failure readiness.
You will help the team develop and improve our existing foundation and provisioning approach, create best practices, and innovate new options for the SMS.
You need to ensure the team’s knowledge base is kept consistently up to date with native hyperscaler capabilities and modern infrastructure management tools.
To do so, you will help to understand and document existing SAP Sovereign Cloud assets and processes.
Starting from this status quo, you will design concepts for our infrastructure management on the global scale.
This will involve significant coordination with the global Sovereign Cloud operations and engineering teams, our regional teams, and our hyperscaler provider partners.
WHAT YOU BRING · Bachelor’s degree in business, operations, or engineering or equivalent experience · Ability to manage through ambiguities while being innovative and collaborative · Technical skill and knowledge in various technologies, tools, procedures, and programming languages used by development and operations and the willingness to learn new topics quickly · Strong analytical research and problem-solving skills · Ability to deliver services to meet stakeholders’ demands on a timely basis · Inherent drive to produce high quality output and standards in your approach to your work · Talent for automation and standardization · Provision and support new and existing cloud services through Terraform and/or Ansible.
· Methodological and conceptual skills paired with analytical thinking · Candidate must be able to produce documentation for processes and procedures · Proven ability to collaborate in cross-architecture teams · Strong communication and interpersonal skills · Strong multi-cultural awareness and intercultural competencies · Ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders · Creative, can-do, positive attitude · Ability to deliver against challenging timelines, flexible and creative in solutioning.
· Persistence, self-motivation and willingness to work under pressure · Ability to function independently, yet collaboratively within a diverse team (good team player) · Knowledge of SAP and the SAP solution portfolio is a plus · English (fluent) required CORE TASKS MAY INCLUDE · Collaboration with engineering and project management as well as other service groups to ensure user and operator needs are considered in new products/releases · Understand and help drive the fulfillment of the product and engineering roadmap and goals through your contributions · Definition of operations model/operational processes and procedures · Production of documentation for processes and procedures · Define and execute technical tasks with a moderate level of complexity independently within the assigned functional areas of responsibility · Contribute to milestones and sub-projects and activities · Provide regular updates to manager or project manager on project status · Improve system landscape support in the assigned functional areas of responsibility · Effective system development/operations along the software lifecycle · Support knowledge management in the team and between operations and development · Contribute to operations model/operational processes and procedures WORK EXPERIENCE · Very good understanding of infrastructure related topics · Minimum 3 years of experience developing, managing, or deploying technical infrastructure at a global scale · Thorough understanding of infrastructure firewalls, load balancers, storage, monitoring, security, IAM etc.
